In relation to the material we covered today in the 11AM class, here is a working example from this weekend’s fight between Rich Franklin and Travis Lutter. Watch the clip starting @ 3:30 of the clip (1:55 in round 1). Franklin is mounted, Lutter pulls off the arm bar and Franklin performs the hitchhiker escape.

Gruhn Plata (Inverted Shoulder Lock)

Posted in Jiu-Jitsu / Grappling on December 22nd, 2007

Here is a lock that I have been incorporating into my Gi and No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu game recently.  I have been very successful with hitting it but as with just about every submission timing and positioning is everything.  If you go for it too late you are going to get your hips crushed to the ground and if you go for it too early and lack the proper positioning he can posture up out of it.  I should also add that with the Gi you can grab the hip so he can’t run around to the side and pass.  No-Gi you can simply hug the hip.

The name kinda stuck after a while without knowing what to call it and no one really ever seeing it before.  However if this has been hit before and has been captured on video please shoot me a link so I can see it:  info@realcontactfighter.com

This year Mr. Gruhn walked away with 2nd place for his effort in the twelve man division at 160 lbs. Jeff Rockwell also won 1st place in one division and 3rd in another! Congrats to both and a deep thanks to everyone who helped them with their recent success; namely Mike Fusco, Tom Gates and Bruce Lombard!
