Kali Class & Sifu Kevin Seaman

On Saturday the 24th the Kali class visited Sifu Kevin Seaman in Cortland, NY for a Filipino Martial Arts seminar. Sifu Kevin covered stick on stick drills as well as disarms, take downs and stickgrappling. Congratulations to Wendy Brown and Guro Gruhn for their recertification given at the end of the seminar. Miss Brown for her Youth Black Sash & Guro Gruhn for his Instructorship in the Filipino Martial Arts and Jun Fan Gung Fu / Jeet Kune Do Concepts.

Empty Hand vs. Knife

In forever continuation as a student Guro Gruhn attended the Dog Brothers Camp this May in Los Angeles, California. The camp was held at Regan Machado’s gym where Marc “Crafty Dog” Denny presented material on Empty Hand vs. Knife attacks through out the weekend. At the end of the camp the material was tested in real live situations with a “Shocknife” where participants could elect to get attacked. Look out for Guro Gruhn’s Empty Hand vs. Knife fight in the up and coming Dog Brothers DVD “The Interface of Gun, Knife and Empty Hand.”

Gruhn Fights in the Dog Brothers’ “Gathering of the Pack”!

On November 20th Guro Gruhn had the privilege to fly out to Los Angeles and fight in the Dog Brothers’ Winter Gathering of the Pack. The day started off with knife fights and soon led into single stick fights of which Guro Gruhn fought in. The day was full of fun and friends. On June 5th Guro Gruhn, Ken Graham and Arsen Elkin of Titan’s Kali program ventured up to NYC for a day long seminar with Marc “Crafty Dog” Denny of Dog Brothers Martial Arts. The day started off with Crafty’s up and coming knife material at Dog Russ’ place and then the seminar moved to central park where the rest of the day consisted of “Kali Tudo ™” and some light sparring. Congratulations Ken and Arsen on your promotion to Group Leader under Dog Brothers!

Mr. Gruhn Brings Home 1st Place! – MD Open 2005

On April 3rd, 2005, Mr. Gruhn fought in the first national championship under the World Kali Federation in Baltimore, Maryland. He brought home first place in the advanced Full Contact Stickfighting division! Aside from Full Contact Stickfighting, the event consisted of a plethora of martial arts competitions such as Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Weapons Forms. Guro Dan Inosanto and Grandmaster Leo Gaje were two of Mr. Gruhn’s judges, along with “Sled Dog” an original Dog Brother, as his referee. The fight lasted a round and half with Mr. Gruhn ending the fight 20 seconds into the second round with a series of knees to his opponent.

Kali Day of Fighting

On the 11th of December the Kali Team had a Day of Fighting as a final exam of sorts to test their abilities. Ken Graham, Arsen Eklin, Ryan Gruhn, and Brian Dombrowski fought in both single stick and double stick exhibition style matches.
