Posted in Competition, Filipino Martial Arts on April 6th, 2009Congratulations to Mike Norrell on his second successful Dog Brothers “Tribal” Gathering of the Pack! This weekend Mike fought multiple fights over a two day event with other fighters from the Dog Brother’s tribe.
His fights caught the eyes of Guro Marc “Crafty Dog” Denny and Guro Benjamin “Lonely Dog” Rittner which prompted them to give Mike the title of “Dog.” Mike’s fights included several fights with very competent fighters over 75 pounds north of Mike’s weight.
Mike is a current instructor under Ryan Gruhn in Filipino Martial Arts – Kali / Escrima / Silat / Arnis and we are proud to have him as a member of the Dog Brothers Tribe!

Dog Brothers – Real Contact Stickfighting Seminar
Posted in Dog Brothers, Filipino Martial Arts on May 4th, 2008On May 4th several members of the Real Contact Fight Team / FMA class went down to Team Ruthless’ gym in Virginia for a seminar with Marc “Crafty Dog” Denny. The seminar consisted of mostly stickfighting techniques along with some knife defense. Dog Brothers footwork has been a huge influence on how the RCFT moves on their feet. Be it boxing, Muay Thai or MMA we have seen a usefulness in the footwork presented by Crafty. Thank you Crafty for all the knowledge you have shared with us!

Secret Gathering of the Pack!
Posted in Competition, Dog Brothers, Filipino Martial Arts on April 4th, 2008On April 4th, 5th & 6th Mike Norrell, Wes Auker, Steve Gruhn and Ryan Gruhn fought in the Dog Brothers ~ Gathering of the Pack commemorating the 20th anniversary of the first gathering. This was a closed door gathering only open to those in the pack and others who were invited. Each person fought multiple times each day testing their abilities and growing with every fight.
