Stick Mount from Cross Body

Posted in Filipino Martial Arts on December 23rd, 2007

With all stick grappling the first order of business is always stick/weapon control. If we do not have control over the weapon we could find ourselves looking to set up a submission while getting hit by our opponents weapon. I would even go as far as to say that wrist / hand control and monitoring should be in order because even if they don’t have a weapon in hand one could always come out at some point. With that said, because stickgrappling usually only involves one stick per person at most, and because 90% of the population is right handed, our main focus here is the right side.

Gruhn Plata (Inverted Shoulder Lock)

Posted in Jiu-Jitsu / Grappling on December 22nd, 2007

Here is a lock that I have been incorporating into my Gi and No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu game recently.  I have been very successful with hitting it but as with just about every submission timing and positioning is everything.  If you go for it too late you are going to get your hips crushed to the ground and if you go for it too early and lack the proper positioning he can posture up out of it.  I should also add that with the Gi you can grab the hip so he can’t run around to the side and pass.  No-Gi you can simply hug the hip.

The name kinda stuck after a while without knowing what to call it and no one really ever seeing it before.  However if this has been hit before and has been captured on video please shoot me a link so I can see it:  info@realcontactfighter.com
